The CDR verification process involves several participants and sub-processes. Generally, the interaction between a CDR supplier and 350Solutions begins after the supplier has worked with a registry to begin the registration and verification process. The registries we work with contract us directly with a flat fee for services, avoiding any conflict of interest. The process is typically:
1️⃣ Supplier → Provides audit package to Registry
2️⃣ Registry → Reviews and approves package
3️⃣ Registry → Delivers audit package to 350
4️⃣ 350 → Conducts initial review & requests additional information
5️⃣ 350 → Conducts site visit (observing operations, data sources, instrumentation, and discussing claims)
6️⃣ 350 → Performs full review & validation of project compliance
7️⃣ 350 → Verifies credit volume based on claims & data
8️⃣ Registry → Reviews draft validation/verification report
9️⃣ 350 → Issues final verification report & submits it to Registry
🔟 Registry → Issues credits & publishes verification report
350Solutions, Inc. is accredited by ANAB as an ISO 17020 Type A independent inspection body with an ISO 14034 certification scope for environmental technology verifications for clean production processes, air pollution control and monitoring, energy efficiency and renewable energy, and water pollution and monitoring technologies. We are also an approved verifier for both Puro.Earth and Isometric carbon removal registries. The majority of CDR verifications are not full-fledged ISO 14034 compliant technology verifications, however, 350 completes such audits utilizing our ISO 14034 Quality Management Plan and Quality Program. In addition, we are working toward accreditation under ISO 17029 / 14064 in 2025.
350Solutions has made the decision to focus on independent verification services, and ensures that no conflicts of interest are present when completing such verifications, as required by our registry partners and our accreditations. As a result, 350Solutions does not typically provide consulting services to CDR suppliers preparing for verification.
Yes - 350Solutions can provide verification services to suppliers, buyers, or others that are seeking CDR credit purchase arrangements that may not involve a registry, such as direct-to-buyer arrangements. Please contact us to discuss.
A full initial registry focused process includes both validation and verification steps, which can be completed simultaneously (typical) or separately. A registry will engage 350Solutions at a point when a supplier is nearing readiness for validation (for initial registration) or when a reporting period ends and the supplier is ready for credit verification. 350Solutions is typically engaged when the supplier has a complete audit package ready and it has gone through initial review by the registry. The Validation process or combined validation - verification process typically takes up to 8 weeks from this point, including site visit. 350Solutions has also worked with registries to enable rapid verification of regular outputs, enabling monthly verifications to occur in under two weeks.
350Solutions contracts directly with CDR registries and is paid by the registry. We operate on a flat fee basis such that our reports are based on the verification services provided and complexity of a process or protocol, not on the number of credits issued. Costs can vary widely depending on the reference protocol and its complexity and data requirements, number of sites, technology complexity, and other factors.
Validation (aka a Production Facility Audit) is completed at the initiation of a project and its first registration. The focus is on ensuring that the CDR project complies with all requirements of the registry standard and protocol. Validation can be completed at the same time as verification of credits, or separately, including prior to full operation of a project - if adequate information on project operations and plans are available.
Verification is the process of evaluating the data and supporting evidence associated with the production of carbon removal credits to ensure that the credits claimed by a supplier for a specified reporting period (i.e. net tonnes CO2 removed) are credible, properly accounted for, and backed by quality evidence that meets registry requirements.
