Using the ISO 14034 ETV standard as our platform, we independently verify the performance and impacts of innovative environmental technologies. Independent testing and verification of emerging technologies is a vital part of the technology commercialization process. Typically implemented for technologies that are near-commercial or later, Environmental Technology Verification (ETV) helps fill a data gap and provides credibility at a time when it is needed. 350Solutions is accredited to provide ETV solutions in accordance with the ISO 14034 ETV standard. We also provide cleantec verification services that utilize our expertise and quality management, but don’t require the ISO 14034 stamp of approval.
ISO 14034 establishes globally accepted verification principles, testing practices, data quality requirements, and capabilities required to ensure technology performance claims are valid, credible, and supported by independent, high-quality test data. The consensus platform enables international recognition of verifications.

Our ETV process follows the ISO 14034 standard and its verification process. A summary of the process is below:
The ISO 14034 Environmental Technology Verification program typically takes anywhere from 3 to 12 months and costs can range from ~$25k-60k, depending on complexity, preparedness, and testing requirements.
ISO 14034 was developed as a global standard and platform for consistent approaches to evaluating innovative environmental technologies. When developed, there were several ETV programs around the globe: US, Canada, EU, Japan, Korea). Although many of these have closed due to funding issues (RIP US EPA ETV! https://archive.epa.gov/nrmrl/archive-etv/web/html/basic.html), there is still interest in the ISO 14034 Standard and verifications. In some cases, specific ISO 14034 requirements have been added to procurement and permitting practices (https://sustainabletechnologies.ca/app/uploads/2023/07/SETV-Guidance-PAS-2023-07-27-English.pdf) , but in most, it is used by technology developers to provide credibility in marketing.
Typically, 350 works with the tech developer to develop the test and QA plan, then the technology developer is responsible for completing the testing specified and provides the results and data to 350. Testing support and costs are not included in the 350Solutions ETV scope. In most cases, 350 staff will complete a site visit and observe testing, but in some cases, we may provide additional independent instrumentation, challenge gases, or collect independent samples for confirmation of results.
